🥣 Simple Toor Dal Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup Toor Dal
  • 3 cups water
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 1 tomato, chopped
  • 1 green chilli
  • ½ tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 2 garlic cloves, chopped
  • 1–2 tbsp oil or ghee
  • Salt to taste
  • Fresh coriander
  • Optional: red chilli powder

Method:

  1. Wash the Toor Dal thoroughly and soak for 15–30 minutes.
  2. Add dal, water, turmeric, tomato, onion and green chilli to a pressure cooker.
  3. Cook for 3–4 whistles, or until the dal becomes soft. Allow the pressure to release naturally.
  4. Mash the cooked dal gently and add salt.
  5. Heat oil or ghee in a small pan. Add cumin seeds and chopped garlic.
  6. Once the garlic turns lightly golden, add chilli powder if desired.
  7. Pour the tempering over the dal and mix well.
  8. Garnish with fresh coriander and serve hot with rice, roti or chapati.

Tip: Add a little lemon juice at the end for a fresh, tangy flavour.
