Eastern Palappam Mix Powder 1kg is a convenient ready-to-use mix for preparing delicious, soft and fluffy Kerala-style Palappam at home. Palappam, also known as Vellayappam, is a traditional South Indian delicacy made from rice and is famous for its soft, spongy centre and delicate, lacy edges.

With Eastern Palappam Mix, you can enjoy the authentic taste and texture of traditional Kerala palappam without the need to prepare the rice batter from scratch. It is perfect for breakfast, dinner or special occasions and pairs wonderfully with both vegetarian and non-vegetarian curries.

Cooking Instructions

Ingredients:

  • Eastern Palappam Mix Powder – 1kg

  • Water – as required

  • Yeast – according to package instructions

  • Sugar – as required

  • Salt – to taste

Preparation Method:

  1. Place the required amount of Eastern Palappam Mix Powder in a clean bowl.

  2. Add water gradually and mix thoroughly to make a smooth, lump-free batter.

  3. Add yeast and sugar as directed on the package and mix well.

  4. Cover the batter and keep it in a warm place for fermentation. Allow it to ferment until the batter becomes light and slightly bubbly.

  5. Once fermented, add salt and adjust the consistency with water if necessary. The batter should be smooth and easily pourable.

  6. Heat an appam/palappam pan over medium heat.

  7. Pour a ladleful of batter into the centre of the hot pan.

  8. Lift the pan and gently rotate it in a circular motion, allowing the batter to spread towards the edges while keeping the centre slightly thick.

  9. Cover the pan with a lid and cook until the centre is soft and fully cooked and the edges are lightly crisp and golden.

  10. Remove carefully and serve hot. Repeat with the remaining batter.
